Everything here is information, carefully checked and openly dated. It is not advice, and it is not a promise about what you will find when you get there.
A figure on this site is true as at the check date printed beside it, according to the source named beside it. That is a real standard and most travel sites do not meet it. It is still not the same as a guarantee, and we would rather say so plainly than let the dates imply one.
Mountain travel carries risk that we cannot check for you
Most of what we write about sits between roughly 2,500 and 3,050 metres, on roads that snow closes without notice. Weather turns, a road opens late or not at all, a lift that ran last week is shut today, and altitude affects people differently.
Check the day you travel, with the people who decide. Road status, weather and closures come from the district administration, the police and the agency that maintains the road. A page we checked in September cannot tell you what a road is doing in January. Your decisions on the ground are yours.
What we check, and what we cannot
We trace every date, fee and rule to the body that published it and stamp it with the date we looked. We read Hindi sources as well as English ones, because district notices rarely appear in English. Where we could not confirm something, the page says so rather than filling the gap with a guess.
What we cannot do is predict. No source tells you whether a road will open on a given morning, whether snow will arrive in a given week, or whether a closed lift will restart. Where a page gives you a pattern from past years, it says that is what it is. The method is on the about page.
How we make money
Nobody pays us for coverage. There are no sponsored posts on this site, no paid links, no paid mentions and no advertising. No hotel, operator or tourism body has bought a word here, and none will.
There are no affiliate links on this site today. We expect to add some. When we do, this is the deal, and it will not change:
- If you book through one of our links, we may earn a commission. You pay exactly the same as you would have paid otherwise.
- A commission never changes what a guide says. A place does not get a better write-up for being bookable, and being unbookable is not a reason to leave somewhere out.
- If a stay is ever hosted or paid for, that is said at the top of the page it affects, where you cannot miss it. Not in small print at the bottom.
If any of that ever stops being true, this page changes and the date at the top moves with it.
Not professional advice
Nothing here is medical, insurance, legal or financial advice. Altitude, fitness and what a journey will do to you are questions for a doctor. What a policy covers is a question for the insurer, in writing, before you leave.
